I Am Not an Artist

Justin Giritlian - Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Motionographer puts it best when they talk about this new gif animation concept called I Am Not An Artist. "Johnny Kelly and Matthew Cooper have just made a series of 56 hilarious and poignant animated GIFS called I Am Not An Artist for Elisava, a Barcelona-based design school. The piece, subtitled An Animated GIF Paranoia About Nonstop Design Workers, illustrates the process of design as hard and sometimes painful work using stop-motion and animated sequences that are reduced to 3-7 frame loops. Some are silly, some are trippy, some are mundane. For me the totality of watching the 56 loops playing all together feels a bit like the kind of work we do; windows upon windows of activity, with no end in sight.
You can get involved as well, and upload your own animation sequence to be included in the piece"

The State of the Internet

Justin Giritlian - Monday, March 08, 2010
Great video showing contextually how vast the web really is and how this is only the beginning of the massive wave that is headed our way. What is weird to think about is in a few months, the information in this video will already be obsolete. Enjoy anyway!

Honda Jazz: Intense Legoing

Justin Giritlian - Sunday, February 07, 2010

Honda has crafted a very interesting European commercial for their Jazz model.  Relaying on the popular trend of stop-motion animation and using legos to allude to the many scenarios you could be in with your Jazz, they seem to not worry about perfecting every shot.  Either way - we like and not to mention are very impressed with how much time and legos it must have taken to craft the pieces involved.

Another stop-motion animation video hitting the scene, however this one is unique because it hints at how tedious the process can be.

Ninja's Unbox the Nexus One

Google has gone a different route with their commercials for their new phone, the Nexus One. With the popular trend of photographing the unboxing of technology combined with another trend of one-stop animation of Ninjas to do the task they have successfully killed two birds with one stone.  Enjoy!

The Future of CG and MOCAP - Human Faces

Justin Giritlian - Tuesday, January 19, 2010
Coming out of the most recent TED conference, Paul Debevec shows the future of how we are going to animate humans - clearly the most challenging of the elements due to subtle nuances that our species notices so immediately i.e. wrinkles and subtle muscle nuances.  They created a way of lighting the subject and studying the reflection of that light to get a proper "mold".  Basically watch this video and be prepared to have your jaw open at the future.
